Truro Fencing Club meets at Truro School's New Gym, Trennick Lane, Truro every Tuesday and Thursday between 6.00pm and 10.00pm, with coaching from Richard Bonehill, Jon Salfield and Robert Bruniges. Visitors of any standard are welcome, so pop into Truro FC during your holiday in Cornwall. Truro Fencing Club organises the renowned Duel on the Beach each year at Perranporth, and co-organises the Cornwall LPJS Youth Foil tournament in Bude. Truro Fencing Club is committed to providing the highest standard of coaching for all its members and actively encourages members to enter county, regional and national competitions. We have been awarded grants totalling more than £11,000 by the National Lottery Awards for All scheme, the Local Network Fund and Carrick District Council to continue our development of young fencers, provide funding for promotion and expansion of the club, recruit increased numbers of women and young fencers, upgrade of equipment and train coaches. Our membership is currently over 60, including more than 20 under 16s and a high percentage of women. Membership is by annual subscription or monthly standing order, and is currently just £100 per annum for juniors and £200 per annum for adults. All equipment is provided for beginners. HISTORY AND SOME RESULTS Founded in 1970, Truro Fencing Club is Cornwall's leading club, holding dozens of county, regional and national titles at junior and senior level. Internationally 14 of Truro's juniors have represented Great Britain, with national titles and international medals at U17 Women's Sabre, U18 Women's Sabre, U14 Men's Sabre, U12 Men's Sabre and U15 Women's Sabre. Truro's Senior Coach, Richard Bonehill, represented Great Britain at the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005 World Veterans Championships, reaching the Final Tableau in 2001 and 2005, finishing 6th & 8th respectively. Five other veterans have represented great Britain, with Bill Osbaldeston holding the Commonwealth Team Gold and Over 60 Gold at Epee. Jon Salfield & Katie Hendra have represented the British senior team at the European Championships, and in 2006 six Truro fencers will represent their respective home nations at the Commonwealth Championships. The club has won team and individual medals at the Copenhagen & Amsterdam Satellite World Cup events, the Birmingham international, the British Championships and other prestigious events. At World Cup level 5 fencers have reached L64s or better, and one has represented GB at the senior European Championships. Former World Junior Champion and three-time Olympian Robert Bruniges coaches and trains at the club.
