The myths and legends of Cornwall are an essential part of its make-up. There are many tales covering the length and breadth of Cornwall, and all are haunting: a giant who dies for love; a man whose sins pursue him across the bleak moors of Bodmin; a stone with healing properties. In this workshop, we'll be looking at a number of myths and legends, and using them as a basis for writing poetry.

Residential Courses

May 2007
Words of Wonder: Making Poems from Myth and Legend

About the course
Myths and legends are the oldest stories of all. They have all the elements of human comedy and tragedy, with the added dimension of fantasy. On this course we'll be exploring ways of reworking the myths and legends of different countries in poetry, and creating some of our own.

September 2007
Of Memory & Imagination:
Turning Your Experiences into Poetry
Venue: Casa Delureni, Beznea, Romania
Dates: 3 - 8 September 2007
About the course
Memories are powerful.  So is the imagination. During this course you'll be using your memories and adding to them that magic ingredient, imagination, to create poetry.  You'll be encouraged to be as creative with your recollections as you like - why not?  You are, after all, asking yourself to make something vivid and exciting out of the materials in your head.  Not, of course, without guidance. In a series of exercise-based workshops, we'll be working together to craft these internal resources into poetry.
